Hello October!

I love October and I'll tell you why in a bit :)

It's not just about the fact that it's Nigeria's independence day but because it's the birth month of everyone in my immediate family. Really there's always so much fun in October.

2nd Oct - My father's birthday
9th Oct - My brother's birthday
11th October - My mother's birthday
19th October - My sister's birthday

And that's everybody. I'm the only one that came with a lil change cos that can be a lil boring ugh lol (trying to console myself) oh no I think it's better to say 'cos I'm just unique like that' :)
Anyway, I miss them so much right now esp my sister. I wish I could be around to celebrate her day with her. I just realized that I'm never around. I pray we get to spend the next one together and I pray that God will continue to grant them long life and good health. I just want an opportunity to makeup for all the years I've stayed away. I remember when they all gathered around to bid me goodbye the last time I visited, and my sister was crying like I'd be gone forever. That's the most I can remember of us these days "hellos and goodbyes". I'm getting emotional, I need to stop.

And I've got 'my video pick' for you, Nneka's new video for her song "my home".
I decided to choose this video because it is Nigeria's independence day and it is dedicated to all Nigerians and all those marking this day with us.

Here - Like always, EnjoY!

I like Nneka; her voice, her music but I really think she needs to work more on her videos. Sometimes I don't even get the idea at all.
Anyways, I hope you found a reason to like it, (you know we all see things differently) 'cos this one is not for me but for you :)

Happy independence day to all Nigerians, and to everyone, happy new month.
Have a peaceful one lovelies!

Disclaimer: Re: Why do we get married + a Lil special

hahaha Ok I thought in my previous write up {Why do we get married?(Requested)} I even mentioned that I wasn't ready for marriage (Don't even know why I let that slip, but fact is, I did). Turns out that post looked more like an advert than the real purpose of it, which was meant to address the essence of marriage.

Since last week I've had this strange dude sending me messages about wanting to meet me, that he's found his wife because of the post I put up, he read it and he was so captivated and the plenty bla blas. No offence, but seriously you're not helping.
LOL! Is this how ludicrous this topic has become?

I already pointed out that I had my reservations about marriage and you think the best person that will make me throw all that in the wind is someone that just basically read about my weakness and decided to capitalize on it? Seriously, I didn't take it seriously until I received another "I read your post and would like to meet you" from another guy this morning. Hahaha mehn I don suffer. Seriously, I don't get it, I guess I'm missing something. Even though I read it again, I still couldn't figure out what, so perhaps this should do the job.
DISCLAIMER: Please if that post came across like I was advertising or something,  I would like to have you know that it was a huge misunderstanding on your part. Your brain just basically read what it wanted to, it wasn't me. Thank YOU!

Mehn I can't stop laughing oh! In times like this, I try to remind myself of all the fantastic reasons why I'm  keeping this blog :)

On a brighter note, I stumbled upon something for my 2face's fans. Sorry this video is a little late, I actually thought I had published it a couple of days ago, I scheduled it but blogger just had to be funny. Anyway since I happen to know one of his greatest fans, I just had to merge it into this one and share it. Erm N.I.L I hope you enjoy watching this one ;-)

I feel so proud of him.
He couldn't leave his signature "yes oh" and see we did leave out "no shaking" the last time. How did we do that? LOL

Finally, I want to wish everybody a  happy new month
I pray all your dreams do come true
Enjoy your August Lovelies!

Sunshine award

Hey y'all
I was given this beautiful sunshine award by Didi

I love anything sunshine. It depicts joys, smiles, laughter, fun...(I guess this everyday rain has done something to my cognition right now). It's been raining cats, bulldogs, infact dragons for the past few days in Budapest. I just want to go out not worrying about this annoying rain.
Ok you see how frustrated I am about rainy days? That's to show you exactly how much this sunshine award means to me. Not just because it is an award, but also because it is a 'sunshine award'.
Thanks Didi,  I really appreciate this.

In accordance to the rules surrounding this award, I have to pass this on to 10 other bloggers, so here we go.
First off, I must say that 10 is very restrictive but I'll try to do my best.
I am very sure that my best will still not do any justice to this because y'all are tres awesome but hey! I have to do this; stop the procrastination girl! (Talking to myself! SMH it happens a lot Lol)

So I'll just try to use the blogs that I enjoy reading as the basis for this and it's in no particular order

1. Didi
10. Linda Ikeji

Thanks peeps! You help me with some of those boring moments.
Please pardon me, I need to add this new blog I just discovered Gbemisoke
She's too inspiring to be left out of this.
 Pardoned? Thank you :)
Hmm one more? Lol

I'll also like to avail myself of this opportunity and wish everyone some sunshine for July too.
You're going to have it anyway, it's July, but I'm wishing you one that comes with smiles and everything good.

P.s Especially to my good friends that are graduating tomorrow. I pray the rain doesn't come around at all because y'all deserve a great time.

Have a fruitful July everyone!

2 wrongs can't make a right

I saw myself contributing in a little discussion that at some point I thought it wise to stop talking and just listen. I was so surprised at how confident some people could be about their ignorance and weaknesses.

This boy was so adamant on the fact that at some point it is okay to hit a girl (esp your girlfriend).
Why? 'cos it's the only way to put her in check sometimes. I couldn't hold it down anymore, I just had to interject with a resounding "hell no! That's totally wrong!!!"
And he went on to tell me of this little scenario that occured between him and his girlfriend...."
We had an argument, after a while, I was done talking and I wanted to catch some sleep. But no she wasn't done; She kept talking and talking...and talking...until I couldn't take it anymore. I just had to remind myself that just one slap will shut her up and then I can sleep.

Ok at this point I didn't even know how to tackle that again because I know some girls can have excess strength to talk sha but one thing I did  know for sure was that no matter what, slapping her was absolutely wrong. And why was the argument even supposed to end only when he thought he was done?
So I asked him, " If you can answer sincerely, were you able to sleep after you hit her?"
And he said "no, I couldn't".

That already shortened the whole long sermon I would have adopted in a bit to make him understand that wasn't the solution at all. As a matter of fact, it was so uncalled for.
The aim was to shut her up so he could sleep, but that didn't solve the problem 'cause she ended up with screams and wailings which was even worse than the talk LOL.
The whole situation definitely escalated from something that would have gradually slowed down had it been tackled in a better way to something somewhat of a very chaotic night.

Violence doesn't solve anything. It only shows the level of your intelligence. This I can boldly tell 'cause the older I get, the more I realize I'm better at managing the tendency of me wanting to just scream so loudly at someone that just really provoked me.
Well, well I know all those arguments and 'what have yous'. I can even tell it if you just enjoy hearing it. Predominantly, men are said to be stronger than women and ladies just tend to have this innate ability of being very provocative :)
Well, I didn't coin it, it's just the general myth. But the truth still remains that, it doesn't matter who is provoking who, taking to violence is never the best remedy. It's like trying to use some gasoline to quench a burning flame.

There is no excuse to hitting her so don't even say I couldn't stand it anymore.
Yes you could, if only you had updated your vocabulary with the word "self restraint". And I'll tell you that the mere reason you had that thought in the first place was only because you knew you could hit her and get away with it. If you knew you couldn't, you wouldn't.  If you were looking at 'the rock' for instance, no matter how much he provoked you, you'd think of other ways to resolve your conflict rather than take to violence.
No matter how much your father provokes you, you won't hit him, would you? Why then is it so comfortable for you not to apply that same principle to every body you meet?

Well I had to learn this the hard way. When we were very little, my younger sister was very troublesome. Annoying attention seeker to the fullest. Thank God for something called -growth and maturity. Phew!!!
She would push you so much that you just want to grab her head and hit it on the wall so you can have a 'lil breather...Why?.. just because you believed you could do it.
Of course if you'd manage to put your anger to check until my dad returned, then you would have accomplished a whole lot. Trust me, she was never tired. My dad always promised to punish her only if you didn't try to take laws into your own hands ..and yea sometimes, she overdid it so much that my dad had to make her pay dearly for it. But what happens if at some point you couldn't hold on till dad returns? Best believe that girl will have her best laugh when my dad used you to reinforce that simple message
Never try to use out your power on your subordinates...
*Sigh* After a while I learnt it and I can even tell others about it, Anger never solves anything.

When you think you're over reacting, that's when you need to calm down and think of the many other possibilities of how to handle the same situation.

This isn't just about hitting girls, this is applicable to living with people in general and even animals. If some people took a second to think like this, tell me how it would  have been possible for them to hastily decide that killing the innocent youth corpers just because they were the electoral officers could solve the problems in Nigeria? Tell me how they could have decided that burning down the churches, the mosques and people's homes was the best line of action in salvaging whatever situation they thought they had to handle?

My heart still goes out to those innocent lives that were lost during that post election violence.
May their souls continue to rest in peace. I heard the government tried to compensate their families. But tell me how money can ever make up for those lost lives?
I just don't know why this has become so hard for people to comprehend. Violence never solves anything, it only worsens them.

Message of the day: Learn to shun violence at every given point in time and try to embrace peace as much as possible! Yes indeed, there are better ways of doing things. Can you always bear that in mind?

Enjoy your June

Kick the loads off

For this "new month's" post, I'll be dedicating it to a good cause.
It's for people trying to fight excess weight.

But before that, I want to say welcome to sunny days Yes!!!  (except for some drops of rain a few now and then, trying  to mess up the whole fun)

You'll agree with me that one thing that is common with the summer is people trying to show off their six packs and well toned body on a nice skimpy outfit. You don't blame them, when it gets too hot, you just want to rip off everything and just go bare LOL!!!
During the winter, I try to add as much weight as I can but during the summer I don't bother so much tho. Wanna know why?--- Apparently, cold has not dealt with your skinny ass before :)
Well seriously, the fat helps a lot with heat combustion.
That notwithstanding, there's nothing as repelling as fat layers spilling out of your dress, so please if you still have those lil muffin tops(fats around your abdominal area), you might want to still leave some heavy clothes on no matter how hot it may be until you can get rid of them :)

Apart from trying to go cool and trendy, lets look at the dangers of being overweight to health.

It has been known to be the predominant risk factor for several disease conditions which include:
-Hypertension - Increase in blood pressure
-Dyslipidemia - Disorders of lipid metabolism in the blood
- Cardiovascular diseases- Diseases affecting the heart and blood vessels
-Osteoarthritis - Degenerative disease of the joints of the body
-Respiratory diseases
-Diabetes melitus (type 2)
-Stroke
-Gall bladder diseases
-Sleep disturbances

If Jennifer Hudson could transform from this

to this

There's nothing impossible sweetheart, you too can do it...

Most of the things you need are those you can find right within you. If you would just search a little deeper, I'm sure you can find 'em. You'll need diligence, perseverance, hard-work, zeal, creativity....

And....of course I know you'll need some motivation too, so I'm sending some your way already

This video is a simple illustration of how you can use dancing to attain your goal of staying fit and healthy. You do not need well defined professional moves. The goal is to move your body for a considerably long period of time to effect some tension on your fat deposits which will cause them to burn out.

... Hold on, I'm not done yet with the motivation

Me in the middle of some workout ;)

And yet another one :)

Hope that helped?
Stay healthy peeps!!!

Enjoy your May!

Speak to yourself....

Happy New Month everyone.
I've been a little reluctant with posting something here today. Anyway, I had to just break out of it and try to come around. I know there's someone out there waiting for my "happy new month post", well here it is :)

I was trying to think of something to put up here, but my mind has just been so preoccupied with other things that it failed to come up with some good inspiration. Anyway, I posted something today on my twitter page, I said "Speak to yourself, it listens..." While I was still thinking of what to write, I thought, why don't I just elaborate on this??

So here we go:
Have you ever looked at yourself and wondered what people thought about you? How people really see you?
Most times, it's much more than your dress, your hair or even your skin.
It's about what's underneath everything.
I tell you, people will only see you the way you choose to see your self.
And that reminds me of that old adage that says " Treat yourself good, it gives people a definition on how to treat you"
If you see yourself as useless, and you just choose to walk around with a grumpy kinda look, sooner than later, people are going to start seeing you exactly that way.

Majority of the people in this world are those that are best at bringing others down, in their attempt to make themselves look better. Please, for your sake, do not allow anybody make you accept their definition for your life. If they are callous enough to define you to what suits them, then there's really little you can do to help them. That's their ignorance not yours but at least do not believe them.

Do not stay mute! Tell yourself :
You're amazing
You're beautiful
You're the best
This I think is rather easy.
Leonard Cohen said, "Act the way you'd like to be, and soon you'll be the way you act"

Be the best you can possibly be guys, and never let anyone try to make you feel lowly
HAPPY MARCH 2011

Music love!

Ok guys it's only February and I'm already looking out for which artist will come up with a smash hit for 2011.
Something meaningful though, not some crap with beats!
Talking about craps, didn't we just have a lot of them last year?

...Pretty boy swag by Soulja Boy tell 'em
Seriously guys, If you're trying to tell a girl how swagalicious you are and she's just not paying attention? Simple, hit the studio mehn. She's gonna buy your music and hear about your "pretty boy swag pretty boy swag pretty boy swag" ! That's it, just 3 words and a song is out. And guess what? Yea you guessed right....IT'S GONNA SELL! Like for real? Hell yea, in today's world yea!!!

... California girls by Katy Perry
Sometimes I want to forget and ask whatsup with you girl??? But on a second thought, I remember oh my! She's just being Katy, not your typical girl hahaha! I mean the first time I knew her, she kissed a girl just cos of her cherry chap stick. I can expect anything from her, you know they say first impressions matter a lot.
I just believe it's ok for Katy to dance with candies and gummy bears..BUT SNOOP!!! What's up Dawg?
Did you turn 10 again? Maybe the title "California GIRLS" shoulda helped you out! 'GIRLS' Snoop, girls!!!
Snoop dancing with gummy bears in that video was a big surprise to me. I mean this guy is supposed to be like a God Father in the music world. He's been around and I mean around like a big boy.
Anyway, whatever helps him stay young at heart right?

... Hello goodmorning by P Diddy
"Hello, goodmorning"...song is done hahaha! At least there's always an opportunity for a remix.
Thank you Diddy, you're far too kind! 'Goodmorning' right back at you.
Meanwhile, please has he changed his name again? I just hope I'm not stale on that.

... Whip my hair by Willow Smith
Hmm! I'm still trying to get used to Justin Bieber and the whole hype surrounding him, here comes another kid, this time, just 9 years old with this RiRi's Kinda hair and look (You know the I'm so hard kinda) and she's whipping it. Ok not only is she addressing her haters, but she's also partying!!!
Trust me, if I saw that girl in a club, no offence but I'll ask who let her in.
Jeez what's this world turning into anyway?!

........
Ooops! I can't believe I've already dropped you guys a long epistle here when I only came in to wish you a happy new month.

Anyway, enjoy the rest of the month.
Happy February 2011!

What are you grateful for?

Aww! I can't believe December is here already!
I woke up to a very lazy start today.
Thank God I had a day off from my clinical practice today, at least I could spend some more time on my bed. Just laying there staring into the ceilings, thinking of all the things I have to do once I can get my butts off the bed :)
And then I heard my message tone, someone sent me a message. I checked, I had 3 other unread messages already. Too many messages for one morning!

I went ahead to check the first one, it was a 'happy new month' wish. Aww that was it! I didn't realise December was here already. Gosh how did I let that skip my mind?! I quickly whispered a prayer to God.
I looked out of my window, the whole place was covered up with snow. Very beautiful scenery, amazing beauty by God (even though I was happy that I didn't have to step out early today)

Later on, my sister called. It wasn't just the usual calls. She had some amazing news she wanted to share with me. She just heard news about the release of her final results from school. She's been waiting for this for so long but it has just been unavoidably delayed. It was like everything had come to a stand still for her and she was just constantly depressed everytime she thought about it. She kept hoping month after month, until I and my mum asked her to stop hoping and just settle her mind for next year. At least next year was far enough for everything to be sorted out so she won't be more dissapointed than she already was.

That was indeed a great news. I was so happy! I thought about all the goodness I have enjoyed through out the year too.... my life, good friends, family....
I knew I had to give God a proper "Thank you".

I want to admonish you to take some time out to reminisce and be thankful for 2010 too. What are you grateful for? Think about your life, all the achievements, all the troubles that never came your way.
And if you think that maybe you do not have a good reason to be; maybe because you still have a lot that you want to achieve in 2010 and the year is already coming to an end, then maybe all you need is just a lil bit of hope. You still have 30 more days and it could still happen. Take my sister's case as an example.

But if you think of the fact that we are still walking on the same earth that has swallowed up a lot of people, then maybe you'd have enough reason to be thankful. Think about all the times you picked up a paper to read about some tragedy that you never experienced. If you'd just think a lil bit, just a lil bit, I'm sure you'd have several reasons to be grateful.

Happy December!

Tough decision…. but very worthwhile!

Hey everyone!
I checked all my posts and I realized that I have never posted anything that is related to health. I sat and thought, “Why am I even going to school, if I cannot start embracing my profession and act like I’ll be graduating someday? …soon tho :)

Anyway, here’s something that is more health related.
I was undergoing my clinical rotations last month and some of the places I was sent to were cardiology and pulmonology clinics.
What I saw there was indeed touching. I saw people who had to live with conditions which they caused themselves;
People with severe cardiac and respiratory diseases, all induced by smoking.
After this, I had to really hold myself from running to the streets to start a campaign against smoking already.
I saw myself trying to answer the question I kept asking myself, “But why?”
Wrong choices! Bad choices! A choice they had to make earlier on in life.
Some choices just give us the immediate feedbacks right there and then, while some are just prolonged, more like saved for later.
I kind of even prefer the immediate outcome of what we do today than punishing our later lives with the mistakes of our today.
There I was looking at the faces of all these people (so piteous and sad), I knew one thing was certain, if they were given a chance to relive their lives, all over again, they would definitely make a choice against smoking.
Just some little time of youthful pleasure, leaving a long-lasting nightmare to their aged lives.  I bet most of them said something like “Of course, I’ll die someday, if not due to the complications of smoking, but definitely by something else”. They never envisaged being moved around from one ward to another just in an attempt to seek for the very life that they once cared so little about.
So much pain and anguish! If only they had read in between the lines of ‘smoking is dangerous to health’.
I think every smoker should visit these wards, so maybe they can understand the implications of what they are doing – that is, if it’s really worth it.
Hey the next time you hear ‘smoking is dangerous to health’, it means smoking actually kills!
It might mean nothing to you today, but trust me you’ll remember these sort of messages someday.

Be careful with the choices you make today, and have you a wonderful new month!

NIGERIA at 50!

I asked my sister what the line up of events for the day would look like, and she gave me a very promising one.
"At first, we'll go to the stadium and watch the march past, then later, to see the 'night of a 1010 laughs' and maybe...."
"A 1010 laughs?" I cut in rather hastily.
Well, when I left a few years back, it was still 'a thousand laughs'.

"Nigerians must survive", she replied.
Looking at her face, I'm sure she meant every bit of what she said.

We watched the pupils and the students march in their 'best' uniforms.
The dancers performed like they had never done before. Happiness and enthusiasm emanated from within them, it was almost like they were wearing their hearts on their sleeves.
Although, the sun was shining down on us like it was trying to prove a point, I still felt a certain joy right inside of me. I'm sure my sister felt it too cos I saw it in her eyes, and in that of most of the people that surrounded us.
I tried to curtail my emotions a lot, especially when I saw some children hanging down from trees, just in an attempt to catch a glimpse of what was going on; and also when I noticed a cluster of some very young hawkers trying to peep through the large crowd from a distance.

It was but a long day!

We summed up the day at the venue of the 'night of a 1010 laughs'.
I looked keenly at every performer on the stage, like I was trying to run some examinations on them just with the help of my eyes. They all seemed to look very fulfilled as they came out in their flamboyant clothes and talks that suggested that of a person that was living the 'perfect life'.
I looked around the audience, everyone seemed to have a certain similarity, they were all well adorned, laughing and cheering too.

I had a lot on my mind, I hope I didn't show it?
One would never stop to wonder why everybody was so happy.
Maybe  a lot of people didn't bother, but I did.
Well maybe it wasn't exactly happiness, maybe it was something else that was even less describable, I thought.

I tried to put together all the memories of the day;
...The hawkers
...The dancers
....The performers
....The audience
I had to resolve to one conclusion-this was nothing but pride!
Pride and passion for what belonged to them.

Wow! I exclaimed as I woke up to the sound of my beeping alarm clock. Thank God it at least let me complete the dream before waking me up. I'm sure it would have been so disappointing if I didn't.

I had to remind myself that I was not in Nigeria.
I promised to be in Nigeria to celebrate the next independence day, where I could really feel its significance and the celebration in the air.
Reading about Nigeria was all we did on the 1st of October of the previous years, and maybe some parties to commemorate the event - yea and we didn't forget to remind ourselves that we were 'Nigerians in diaspora'.
I wanted to stay close to where I could hear the speeches by the people that mattered.
It's our 50th, some parts of those 'speeches' just needed to change. I feel like I might miss these important parts, not because they didn't say it, but because I didn't have the right avenue to hear them. I do not want to believe that they would fail to say these things because they have been left unsaid for far too long and I strongly believe that its highly expedient that somebody took the plunge and made mention of them.

I'm happy to wake up to a beautiful morning on the day of Nigeria's 50th independence anniversary still.
"When there is life, there is definitely hope", they say.

I guess I have to put on my computer and check what is happening over there as usual.

Lest I forget, HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY NIGERIANS!
And to the rest of the world, HAPPY OCTOBER 2010!

Summer 2010!

Hello blogville! Enjoying your summer holiday? Cos I am :)

With my previous post, I'm sure you would have received a little hint that I love music, true that! But that cannot even be compared to the love I have for dance.
Sometimes I like to believe that I love music just because it inspires me to dance or more like it brings out the best moves I could ever think of.

Well I'm a professional dancer but I'm also schooling, so that leaves me with always having to balance things up. I try to stay very focused and busy with school when school demands that I do, and I also dance myself out enough to last me for a longtime when I have the opportunity to, with that everything is well equated.
I was so busy during the year that there was not enough room to do a lot with dancing though I was able to perform a few times, still it just didn't seem satisfying. Thus this summer I promised I was going to do a lot to my dancing skills, enough to make up for all the lost opportunities. It's as though I always have a lot of opportunities when I'm very weighed down with school responsibilities.
I finished my exams early and started searching; maybe register with some very great dance teacher, or perform with other talented dancers, or have a very challenging performance that would require my working a lot on myself to be able to give it my best. I was looking for anything, just anything to put me back in form. All my efforts to get something interesting and inspiring just seemed to be very abortive.
Gosh! how could I not dance during this long holidays? The thought of it was sickening!
Well just when I had given up and decided to look for other ways to enjoy my holiday, the offers started rolling in. At a point it became too demanding that I had to pray not to break down.
I danced, I learnt, I taught and even had to talk about dance at a show.
I have been so busy and that is why this is coming a little late, but it's for real the best experience to make a great summer.

I just hopped in to wish everyone a very fruitful new month,
yea I couldn't forget that September is here :)
Happy September 2010!
