Fashion fails contd

For the first part, click here

#Hair - Can you keep it simple? Hell no you can't! Not when all your TV role models are getting wild with it.  How can you even be comfortable walking around the streets with your hair looking somewhat like this?

When you haven't been diagnosed with psychosis yet? *Coughs*

Also, when your hair is too long, passing your bums and ish, people are only going to ask you if you forgot the directions to a salon. No, nobody wants to really see Rapunzel walking around the streets for real. You know the worst of it all? When you use weaves to create this look. LOL like are you kidding me? You just went to buy someone else's hair to form Rapunzel? Please!!!

# Clothes - Always try to find out what fits your body type most. If it flatters your figure, go for it. If it doesn't, then it's just not for you. Try other options, I'm sure you'll find one that will work eventually.

#Colour blocking -Now people, we know that colour blocking is the trend now, but you have to differentiate between colour blocking and colour clashing. When you blend yellow, lilac, red, green and turquoise or walk around like the missing fragment of a rainbow, what exactly is your aim? To stop over and perform at a circus or to just visit some place like a sane human? You have to ask yourself these sorta questions sometimes. It sure helps.

I must not fail to point out that fashion is really taking a new toll from what is actually admirable to outright madness. Some outfits are supposed to add the splendor and excitement to music videos and the runway, please leave them there and don't try to bring them to the streets.

When you walk on the streets and people are staring, it doesn't necessarily mean that they think you're beautiful, it just means that you're out of this world. 'Out of this world' could mean a whole lot. When you dress up and people cannot use simple words like "good, beautiful, pretty, sweet"...etc as compliments, rather they find themselves startled and eventually try to spew out words like "hot, sexy, incredible, wonderful"...seriously don't fan yourself yet. It only means that you've managed to stun them, but better pray that it's in a good way. I've even told my friends not to use those 'sexy' and 'hot' terms for me, it's just plain confusing. How did those even end up as compliments? Please just break it down in clear terms 'good' and 'bad'.
Anyway, I'm just saying because a lot of people dress a big mess and continue to dwell in their ignorance just because they believe that  a lot of people were captivated and really complimented their dressing. Sweetheart, if you remember well can you really say that those were real straightforward compliments?
People will always try to be nice you know. Well, I always try to be :)

There's no point of all these if I cannot find a way to help you out. So let's see:
 - Use a mirror? sigh! You already did that but it didn't work. You only saw what you wanted to see, innit? Can be a little confusing hun, I understand!
- Ok ask a friend...You can't still be too sure of that, you know what they say about "birds of a feather..." She probably looks worse. I can guess that accurately.
- Ok how about you ask a stranger? Worse, I think! You might mistake their being nice as admiration.

Ok let me see, what's the easiest remedy for you?
Get off MTV and the likes darling, and look at how real people around you dress.

Now, that I'm sure did the magic
What do you think? :)

P.s. Happy new month everyone.
Let the final quarter of the year begin. Wow! I can't believe we're there already.
Have a good one lovelies!

Fashion fails

Been a while since I wrote sth as in write something for real around here. I know someone that is doing a happy dance now LOL. Sorry if you had any dull moments with my little recess :)
I was just trying to enjoy my summer hols at least before bracing myself for the stress of school and life in general again.

So lets see, erm today we're talking fashion.

I am not an ardent lover of fashion and trends so you might understand a little bit if I always find some of these fashion big moves insanely wrong.Well, I do love to look good but I'd like to describe myself as stylish rather than fashionable. I like it when I look at my mirror and I feel impressed. Yes guys, I just said it, sorry to burst your bubble, every girl doesn't dress to impress you.
I personally do it to impress myself :P
Did you sense an undertone in the reaffirmation? Yes it is what it is! I just hate it when guys think that girls spend time to dress up just to get that approving nod from them. Wth? You think we don't have a life? It's not enough that you looked at the whole world that we all share and called it yours? Puhlease!
Erm erm anyway please (peoples) forget all these my tantrums, it's just me trying not to make some people's heads swell. However, I want to mention that it's important that you try to think about the people around you still when you dress up. I hate to admit it but yes, that's what I mean. Pity the poor boy now! It could be totally disheartening for some of them sometimes don't you think? #justsaying
Imagine that you want to take your girl out, and she comes out looking like a complete ghost. Sometimes, this thing called fashion doesn't even make sense to me talk more of a guy that has the least idea of what is going on. And then you wonder why he wants to attend his friend's party without you? He just cannot shout! Even me, I cannot not shout LOL
You might want to introduce him to something you think is nice, but it's easier if he thinks it's nice too. Don't pull it off  like a major bomb blast, be careful and play it simple.

Here's a little collection of my "things to be careful with".
Don't be scared, it's all fun. However, if there's something you need to take note of, kindly do that :)

# Foundation - Foundations are really nice. I love mine 'cause it gives me this nice glow and helps keep the makeup on my face a lot longer. Naturally, I have a smooth face so I skipped the 'makes my face look smooth' part but it does make it look a lot smoother. If you wear an optimal amount, it will look so perfect. Beware of flaking your face all up with it, it will make you look like you're all padded up on the face. I mean I'll even be scared to hug you cause I'll just feel like everything you have on your face will just be transfered to my clothing or something. Little tip: Get your perfect shade and always stick to little as opposed to much.

#Powder - Again this could enhance your beauty so much you'll be so amazed. The most important thing is to try to get your best shade. Refrain from trying to get a lighter shade perhaps because you think if you make your face lighter, it will look prettier. No it won't, it will only make you look like your wearing a mask that is different from the rest of your body. Little tip: Talk to a cosmetician, they should know what should work for you. I know most of them at these cosmetic shops are always very eager to help.

#Smoky eyes- It could be a nice look when applied perfectly but 2 things are involved with this look. First, you might think it's just about spreading a substantial amount of eyeshadow on your eyes whereas it's not. If you don't have your way around it, I'll suggest you refrain from it except it's halloween day, you can never go wrong if that's the case. Little tip: I suggest you allow a professional to do it, the difference can be clearly told apart, that is, if you are not sure you can handle it.
Secondly, you have to understand that it might not be the best look everytime. For instance It's perfect for a night look but turning up at your desk as a teacher with dark blue smoky eyes is completely outrageous. Take note!!!

#Lip colors - Stop amusing people for free, except you're getting paid for it. Please who even invented yellow lips, green lips and the rest of those outrageous lip tars? Yea my bad! They were made for special purposes. Again for modelling, videos and other entertainment purposes, totally perfect. For everyday use? Little tip: please visit a psychologist. I said psychologist but if you figured out that I could indirectly be implying that you try a psychiatrist, it won't be a bad idea either.

#Red lips - I love, love, love it. BUT for red lips,  just like the smoky eyes, there are 2 things involved too:
Be careful that it doesn't smear all around.(Border it out first with a lip liner)
Also, be sure that it fits your skin tone.
Little tip: If you are very dark, and you want to go bold with the red lips, you have to be very careful with choosing your colour. Generally, I will say a brighter shade is definitely not your look but that's not completely true, you have to put some effort into finding your perfect shade.

See the contrast?

#Eyeliners - Keep it simple! Seriously keep this one simple as much as you can. Forget about shaving everything all up and drawing some butterflies with some flashy colours, you'll only succeed in looking like you escaped from another planet. Little tip: Try to shape your own brows and utilize them as much as you can as opposed to shaving everything off. Stay away from deep black too. Choose something that looks natural e.g dark brown or a lighter shade of black, depending on your skin and hair colour.

#Blushes - In this case, the old long makeup rule, "Less is more" is really top notch. And don't forget to look for a colour that looks just a lil bit more than natural. Those very colourful cheeks will only suggest one thing and that is, "I could be a clown right now". Little tip: For darker skin tones, try bronzers in orange and brown shades instead of pink blushes, they definitely work better.

#Heels - They might look very beautiful and sophisticated but sincerely if you can't walk on them, then it's the complete opposite of everything you were trying to achieve. Look for some nice flats that can still give you that elegance while leaving you very comfortable. The best thing I like about heels is the way it makes you walk. It's as if it just gives you that added poise which for me I think is very important for every lady. Of course that can only happen if you are comfortable in them. Little tip: Try to walk in them around the house as much as you can until you think you've mastered your steps before heading out. Also when shopping, don't forget that being comfortable in them is just as important as them looking pretty.

To be continued...
Farrealz already putting it together, just didn't want a super long post, so check back soon for the concluding part :)

Meanwhile, you can leave your 'fashion fails' as comments too
I'm always very grateful to read your reviews :-)

Team beautiful

I must say that I am indeed appalled at what my eyes have seen and my ears have heard these past few days. Being less busy (thanks to summer hols) has left me in a constant search for what to read, hence I find myself visiting a lot of blogs these days.

Let me start off with this question directed to the ladies! Please can someone explain what's with us? 'cause I've been trying to fathom this for a while but it just eludes me.
It's not enough that we've managed to establish the broad colored and white categories, we had to make it worse with more subdivisions.
Like what is dark-black girl? or light-skinned black girl? And I remember how some of them will quickly want to add, African-American-light-skinned-black girl.
Like why all the fuss, debates and controversy?
Seriously do you notice that boys do not do all that brunette, blonde, red haired thing? But we just strongly believe that it is very important when describing a girl.
That's why their life is a lot easier, boys I mean! Sometimes I envy them a lot. The way they can easily tolerate each others inadequacies.

I was so dazed when I saw the traces of yet another subdivision everywhere.
So now we've succeeded in adding  'team relaxer', 'team natural' and 'team weaves' to it,  and all these only in the 'african hair' community alone.
Why?! I can completely understand if these sorta descriptions is to specify a certain interest (e.g a specific beauty product applicable to a particular group), that's quite comprehensible; BUT for people that adopted these terms for the purpose of some sort of segregation, I've got only one sentence for you "Come off your high horse and face reality, you're not any better"

Sincerly, I don't know where I'd belong because I find myself in all of those aforementioned groups.
I do almost everything to my hair. I don't like sticking to one look because I consider it very boring. Whatever I think is beautiful, I go for it. I was *natural (no relaxers) for one year, and then I stopped. The hard work and basically the stress was very discouraging. It wasn't even easy esp when I had to run off for an early morning lecture. As if that wasn't enough, winter decided to deal me a hard blow by chopping a lot of it off.
I relaxed my hair, basically that's my easiest summer look. Well cut, highlighted and relaxed and I have my reasons for that. A little relaxer in it is a much easier job for me and that is exclusively my business. That's what technology and embracing life is all about, things can be done differently. Sometimes I think weaves or even braiding them will give me a different look, I explore it. Or even when I try to get them long or with brilliant curls, I choose one of the options I consider the most suitable. There should really be no restrictions regarding this at all. Some people can go through the stress of relaxer and weaves, some people just cannot. And some can go through the stress of managing afro hair, it is just a choice. Like I stated earlier, I have been through all those phases - relaxed, weaves, natural and I can clearly say that each and every one of them comes with it's peculiar hurdles. There's no need trying to be ethnocentric about it. Just choose the one that suits your preferences and take a chill pill.

I'm just imagining how hard it would have been for Obama to win. We already know he had that 'No he's black' or 'yes he's black' going for him. I'm sure if he were to be a girl, we would have heard talks like, 'no, she's team relaxer' and oh no she's got some weaves on too.
It's ridiculous, sounds very foolish and immature! If I think about this like this as a girl, I can imagine guys reading some of these comments and statements sometimes and just basically STH!

Why can't we just do the team beautiful (keep your description of beautiful to yourself) and forget all these unnecessary wanting to be better? What's it with all the unnecessary distinctions?
Very soon, I tell you team natural will again be divided to afro, curls and locks. Trust me it can only get better. I'll be so embarrassed as a girl to hear about some stupid "hair war".

Please your hair is only a minute part of you, not everything.  'Team afros' please, it doesn't make you more African, and 'team weaves' and 'relaxer', it doesn't make you more westernized either. Please everybody take note!!! To each their own, as long as it makes you comfortable and most importantly, BEAUTIFUL! God forbid that you try to rock something that looks rather disheveled on you than beautiful.

If you do not have any idea of this ongoing debate, probably it's even the first time you are going to have to think about this as an issue, then click here to witness an attempt to tackle this menace at blogtalkradio.com

This would never be complete without this song. I am not my hair by India Arie ft Pink
If I know anybody that likes to rock 'natural', it's India Arie. But if she could boldly sing 'I am not my hair' I don't know who else can represent this statement more. And we know Pink likes to change that thing like nobody's got anything on her. Here you have it, EnjoY!

And of course, a few pics of me rocking all your 'teams'
So go ahead, let's see you try to define me now :P

Aint I just beautiful in all of them? :)

P.S Pheww! Sorry for just going on and on. Usually when I rant like this, I don't hit the "publish" tab but mehn, I just had to for this particular topic. I hope the pics and the music made up for the annoying rant? *-*
I'm a joker I know, but I'm pretty sure that's why you love me :)

Ankara love

Wow I've been checking for some nice ideas for summer outfits and I was so overwhelmed by how much African prints have taken into the global fashion sphere. It's amazing!
A lot of clothing lines are trying to embed them into their style ranges this summer. There's something about it though that I can completely understand. Summer is characterized by people wearing clothes in bold colours and prints. The idea behind exploring tribal prints for summer is becoming very vast. And you know when you talk about bold prints, give it to those African fabrics, they are bold and catchy.

Now i'm very sure one of my teachers will be so mad at me because he asked me to bring one for him when I was travelling home. It so happened that I had to do a presentation about Nigeria and I talked about them with some pictures and he was really captivated.
It's not totally my fault though. I didn't want to just give him the wrapper cos I thought he would just turn it into a bedspread or carpet Lol
I wanted to make it into a nice cut out outfit for him because the ones I showcased during my presentation were those made into nice styles and worn by people. I didn't want him to think I played a fast one on him when he saw just a long rectangular piece. Lol
I asked him to give me his measurements but I don't even know what he was saying and somehow he didn't until I traveled and came back and then he wasn't teaching me again and now I don't even see him again....
Anyway, I tried. I just hope he doesn't see them these days and think he would have had one of those if not that I refused to give him :(

Burberry's collection

They are really lovely. You do not really appreciate the things that you see around you until you find yourself in a situation where you can't find them so easily again. I know how much I'd spend to buy other dresses and carefully not choose anything with those prints; but right now, I know all the magic I and my tailor could create by merging our ideas together to make some nice pieces for me.
Talking about my tailor hmm! I hope I can still afford her services though. I remember how she told us(I and my friends) not to call  her 'tailor' again, instead we should address her as a seamstress because it was more 'hippy', before we could get used to that, she changed it again to 'a fashion designer'. Best believe as the name changed, so did the price. Now I heard she has upgraded it to 'a couturier'. She's really good though. As a matter of fact, all those Nigerian small tailors sorry couturiers (lol) are so underrated. Most of them are really good with incredible styles that cannot even be questioned on any red carpet event or wherever.

Anyway back to talking about ankara materials. Now I do understand why my mum used to say "Ankara has come to stay". She was buying them! I and my siblings thought hers was a tad too much. Like don't you get tired of collecting them? Wait till she sees all these new inventions and the impact it is making in the global world. I'm sure she'll close down one room and store them there or something Lol.

The creativity with these materials is really mind blowing though, I am speechless myself. There's nothing I haven't seen; from bags, to shoes, to hair accessories...and this post will never be complete if I do not acknowledge the wonderful creations by Alex Folzi. They just took everything to a different level with these brilliant master pieces. Who thinks of suitcases in Ankara prints? Give it up to those guys, their creativity is top notch.

I'll just leave a couple of pictures for you to enjoy.

Aren't you just loving those prints even more right now?

Kick the loads off

For this "new month's" post, I'll be dedicating it to a good cause.
It's for people trying to fight excess weight.

But before that, I want to say welcome to sunny days Yes!!!  (except for some drops of rain a few now and then, trying  to mess up the whole fun)

You'll agree with me that one thing that is common with the summer is people trying to show off their six packs and well toned body on a nice skimpy outfit. You don't blame them, when it gets too hot, you just want to rip off everything and just go bare LOL!!!
During the winter, I try to add as much weight as I can but during the summer I don't bother so much tho. Wanna know why?--- Apparently, cold has not dealt with your skinny ass before :)
Well seriously, the fat helps a lot with heat combustion.
That notwithstanding, there's nothing as repelling as fat layers spilling out of your dress, so please if you still have those lil muffin tops(fats around your abdominal area), you might want to still leave some heavy clothes on no matter how hot it may be until you can get rid of them :)

Apart from trying to go cool and trendy, lets look at the dangers of being overweight to health.

It has been known to be the predominant risk factor for several disease conditions which include:
-Hypertension - Increase in blood pressure
-Dyslipidemia - Disorders of lipid metabolism in the blood
- Cardiovascular diseases- Diseases affecting the heart and blood vessels
-Osteoarthritis - Degenerative disease of the joints of the body
-Respiratory diseases
-Diabetes melitus (type 2)
-Stroke
-Gall bladder diseases
-Sleep disturbances

If Jennifer Hudson could transform from this

to this

There's nothing impossible sweetheart, you too can do it...

Most of the things you need are those you can find right within you. If you would just search a little deeper, I'm sure you can find 'em. You'll need diligence, perseverance, hard-work, zeal, creativity....

And....of course I know you'll need some motivation too, so I'm sending some your way already

This video is a simple illustration of how you can use dancing to attain your goal of staying fit and healthy. You do not need well defined professional moves. The goal is to move your body for a considerably long period of time to effect some tension on your fat deposits which will cause them to burn out.

... Hold on, I'm not done yet with the motivation

Me in the middle of some workout ;)

And yet another one :)

Hope that helped?
Stay healthy peeps!!!

Enjoy your May!

Lace wig wahala!!!

Ladies this one is for you! Guys, trust me you won't regret reading it either.

Truth is, there might be a season for a certain fashion item, but it doesn't mean that it is for everybody.

Reminds me of the great comeback of skinny jeans. Oh my! I saw this very full figure on some skinny jeans and I almost gave out all the ones I had. Matter of fact, didn't she realize it was called skinny jeans? I'm not saying you can't wear skinny jeans if you're not skinny, but it just gives you a hint to be more careful, and be very sure that it flatters your figure.

This is exactly what is going on with this lace wig trend now.
Pleaseeeee if your face is very round, just stay away from lace wigs. I don't even know how to drum this one into the ears of  some Nigerian ladies. That it is expensive doesn't make it the best look for you. This lace wig thing did not start today so what's up with the whole hype? It's been there, a lot of celebrities have been wearing it for a while now but I sure know everything that gets to "Naija babes" must be abused. Some celebs have just not bothered not because they can't afford it, but because they know it won't help their face. Anyway for those that won't hear, here's an example:

Tragic Brandy, Tragic!!!

Gosh I just saw my friend's wedding picture, and to tell you the truth, it's anger that made me put up this post. Do you know ugly??? People are supposed to look their best on their wedding day but apparently, my friend equated "best" with "expensive".  She is very pretty on a normal day but I don't even understand how she let somebody mess her up like that. You're supposed to already know what hairstyle fits you best before your wedding day. Whether na N1 or 1 million, please wear that.

I wish I could show you the pics but anyway I'll just try to describe it.
Hairline almost hiding the forehead (this is supposed to be some kind of disorder but I don't know how girls are so happy with it these days), heavy blushers, smoky eyes, red lips. It's so obvious that the heavy makeup and hair did her no justice. I wonder what she'd do when she looks at her wedding pictures years after the lace wig is gone and forgotten, and then she remembers that there were so many other hair styles that she could have opted for if she wasn't on her little mission of trying to impress people with her very expensive look.

At the end of the day, what is more important is that you are a pretty bride and not that you're an expensive one duh!
Sometimes I feel like I'll just wear my regular makeup that I'm used to, before someone will turn me into an expensive looking baboon...Hehehe people, I'm not getting married tomorrow o, before some peeps will come here and do "hint hint someone is getting married" :)

Message of the day: Please if it doesn't fit, then you don't need it.

Damn! Don't I just hate things that are in vogue? Well I don't even understand why, but I just know that sometimes when everybody is trying a certain thing, I just learn to abstain from it.

Beyoncé at L'Officiel Magazine [March 2011] photo shoot

Omg Beyonce looks so adorable with those African attires.
Makes me wanna rock some too myself, it's been long.
I might be doing that pretty soon, and I promise, I'll leave you some pictures :)
